Lois's Italian Wedding Cookies (that actually aren't)

After years of hearing my MIL call these "Italian Wedding Cookies" for billions of years, we found out they are not that at all!!  They are just spiced chocolate cookies that were sometimes served at Italian weddings!

No matter what they are actually called, they are quite good and quite spiced!  And they were always served with frosting (she didn't give me her frosting recipe though, but it seemed like a thin buttercream she'd tint red or green at Xmas).

Here's the recipe:

Dry Ingredients

1 1/4 C sugar

3 C flour

1/2 C cocoa

1/2 t nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice

3 t baking soda

Wet Ingredients

1 1/4 sticks butter, melted

1 T vanilla

3 eggs

1/2 C milk

Whisk the dry ingredients and you can either just pour the wet ones straight in to the dry (to save on dishes) or mix them in a different bowl.  For real, there is absolutely NO reason you need two bowls for this or any recipe.  Just mix them together for Pete's sake.

Mix and drop by spoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for ten minutes.  Lois makes hers tiny.  I make my huge.  Both are great!

You can top with buttercream frosting found here (or any frosting of your liking):
